Summary: Frigg and Bes must work together.

Frigg had gone to bed in a simple, long-length nightgown. She had been looking forward to some sleep that night as she had been making the final preparations for her move out west. So when she moved and suddenly found her arm around a body, her first thought was "Did Apollo sneak inside?" However as she wakes up she realizes that wasn't possible and then gasped when she saw the stranger in her bed. "Dios mio!" she gasped out, quickly moving away and out of the bed. Except when she did, she noted the chain on her wrist, linking her to the sleeping man.

"Let's see how long we can get this to go." She smirks. "Not that I don't trust you or anything, just that having a door between us world be nice."

"No, no. It's okay," he was quick to answer as faint color crawled up his neck and he offered another sheepish grin. "No offense taken. How about we, uh, just head over to the bathroom and we'll make it work?" Suiting actions to words, he led her over to the small room with its protective door, careful to keep his steps better matched to hers so there was no pulling on her wrist. Then he gave the door a push and made a vaguely gentleman-like gesture for her to enter. He took up position on the other side of the door jamb and waited for her to try closing the door.

"That works for me," she assures. She thanks him before entering the bathroom, carefully negotiating her nightgown off. "So, how long have you and Erato been seeing each other?"

"Our first date was Valentine's Day. She and Mel flew out east and, for some crazy reason, she agreed to go with me while I chaperoned the dance at the Boys and Girls Club." He smiled to himself as he remembered how she looked and how the night went... and ended. Then he gave himself a little shake and, knowing she was safely on the other side of the door, he dropped the sheet from his waist and awkwardly climbed into first the boxers and then the jeans they had found. It was hard doing it one-handed and required concentration. So much so, that he didn't notice how the chain between them had grown, expanding until they had more than enough leeway on either side of the door to move at least three feet from the solid object.

"Anyway, she was amazing. I almost lost her to ever teenager there. They all fell in love." He laughed. "And she knew right away to pick out the shyest one and get him to dance with her. He was Mr Popular for the next three weeks. So, yeah, since Valentine's Day."

"Aw, that's so cute." Frigg slipped her nightgown off and was now putting the dress on, also oblivious to the chain. "How's little Alex?"

"He's great. He's..." Bes abruptly trailed off. "Frigg? If we're here and Erato is probably here somewhere... Gaia wouldn't hurt Alex, would she?"

And at first that has a cold ball of fear settling in Frigg's stomach. However, she manages to think about it logically.

"No..no I don't think so. They once brought us to a safe place where the babies could be born. Plus Sigyn told us that there was an implication that Gaia wants us to give birth to a new generation. It wouldn't make sense for her to hurt Alex."

Her words calmed him and Bes took a slow, deep breath. "Okay. Right. You know more about this than I do." He paused and stared down at the shirt in his hand before tightening his fingers on the soft fabric. "But I swear if anything happens to him or the other kids..."

The threat was evident and, given the earlier range of embarrassment and sheepishness in his voice, a startling reminder that Bes was, after all, a deity in his own right.

"You and me both," Frigg agreed with steel in her voice.

"I figured you would agree." The tension still lingered in his shoulders but the storm cloud of his expression eased at her words and tone and Bes glanced towards the door between them again. "Uh... I don't know how I'm going to get the shirt on with this chain in the way," he admitted after a moment. "You don't mind if I just forget it, right? I'd rather work on how to get out of here and find Erato and the kids."

Frigg managed to get the strapless dress on when Bes asked the question. "Won't bother me any," she assured.

"Great." He looked around the room. "How about we check all the drawers and under the furniture first? Just to see if there's a key around. Then, if that doesn't work... Uh, we'll think of something else."

"Sounds like a plan," Frigg says, coming out of the bathroom. "You got dibs on the drawers or the furniture?"

"I'll take care of the furniture," Bes offered. "That way I can haul it away from the wall and stuff."

"That works for me. Let's get to it." And Frigg wastes little time rummaging through the drawers.

Bes kept the chain between them in mind for the most part as he worked, allowing slack to hang between their wrists, never quite noticing the space they had. After checking beneath every piece of furniture he could reach while tethered, he next set to moving a nightstand and the dresser away from the wall to peer behind hem.

Frigg meanwhile did a meticulous search through every drawer, carefully sifting through every piece of clothing.

Finally, Bes sighed. "Nothing here, there, or anywhere. They couldn't make this easy, right?" Before he could continue, though, he froze and stared at the chain between them. "Uh, Frigg? Wasn't the chain much, much shorter when we woke up?"

He lifted his cuffed wrist, the length of chain rattling a bit in response, and blinked. Somehow they had achieved a distance of about half the room between them... All without realizing it.

"It rarely is, hon." Frigg turned at Bes' question and blinked in surprise when she realized he was right. "Now how the heck..?"

"Not a clue but it's a good sign, right?" Bes risked a hopeful smile. "If we can make it grow, then we can make it go away, too."

Indeed, they could do just that. Deeming that this pair had actually come to a mutual accord, they were rewarded.

On one of the beside nightstands a small golden key appeared. No fanfare or shining light drew the attention to herald its arrival. But should either deign to notice, their freedom was granted.

"Yeah, that's true enou-hey!" Frigg said in surprise when the key ended up in her line of sight. "That wasn't there before!"

Bes turned to follow the direction of her eyes and his face brightened in a big smile. "No, it wasn't but that sure looks like a key to me." Without hesitation, he crossed to the nightstand and picked it up. Then he returned to Frigg's side, took her manacled hand in his and set to work applying key to lock.

It worked!

"Great! Throw some clothes on, hon, and let's find the others."

"Sounds like a great plan to me." Bes quickly undid the manacle on his own hand and tossed the chains and cuffs to the bed with a noisy clinking. Then he returned to the dresser to find a shirt, socks, and - in the closet - he found shoes in his size. He was ready in less than five minutes.

Then he approached the door. He hesitated for only a moment before trying it. He released the breath he didn't know he had been holding when the knob turned easily and the door opened. "Do you want to lead or should I?"
