Characters: Tyr and Sif, Guest-starring Tina Shin
Date/Time: Friday, July 22th, starting around 7 p.m.
Location: Frosted Fancies, Chicago
Rating: TBD, but probably no more than PG.
Warnings: Possible eye-rolling cuteness.
Summary: Tyr and his daughter, Tina, go visit Sif over the weekend.

Kevin had to admit he was anxious as they got closer and closer to their destination.

His ever perceptive daughter caught on quick. "Are you sweating, Daddy?

"What? Oh yeah, a little, hon. I'm just a little hot."

"But you have the air conditioner on." She seemed to think a minute. "Are you worried about seeing your friend?"

Sometimes she could be way too perceptive. He sighs. "Yeah, honey. I am a little."

Again she seemed to think. "Is she your girlfriend?"

Kevin nearly coughed in surprise. "What? No, Tina. Amber is an old friend who I haven't had a chance to sit down and talk with for awhile, that's all."

Tina raised a screwed-up eyebrow at him, totally not convinced.

"But, hey. All that is ancient history. Literally," she continued. "What matters more is the here and now. We're here together, and this is what we have now." Sif kissed him sweetly and softly.

It still felt like a dream. Being with her, holding her, kissing her. However the mention of Thor had blunted his mood a bit.

When they parted he spoke. "Sif, if Thor were to return..would you go back to him? If that's what you'd want, I wouldn't stop you. Above all I want you to be happy."

"That... is a difficult question, to be honest. I'm sure if he did, he would expect me to go to him. However... Did anyone ever explain to you how I became Thor's wife in the first place?" Sif asked.

"I heard gossip as well as read mortal interpretations of it." He respected Thor, he didn't want to think he just bullied a man into giving up his wife. "I don't know how much of it is true or not."

"Thor... Well, he's a man who knows what he wants and doesn't like taking no for an answer. At some point, he decided he wanted me, except I was already married to Aurvandil. So, more or less, he said Aurvandil could either give me up, or they could fight it out. Of course, Thor was a much better fighter, and I didn't want to see Aurvandil get hurt, so I volunteered to go, on the condition that Thor would adopt my son as his own and make him one of the Aesir. Beyond that, though, I wasn't given the choice. Thor would have had me one way or another." Sif sighed.

"Of course, demanding another man's woman isn't exactly something people can get away with any more. Truthfully, a man of his temper isn't really the sort of person these days that I would want as my partner and father of my children. Times have changed, but I'm not sure he has."

"So, to answer your question, probably not, unless circumstances demanded it was necessary. Thor is a good man. I just don't think he's the right man for me. Not anymore."

Tyr holds her to him. "I'm sorry, I never meant to make you remember that. And I don't fear Thor. If you want him back, so be it. However, I promise you he'd have a much harder time taking you from me. I love you."

"I know," she said, gently stroking his cheek.

"Anyway, is everyone ready for a picnic?"

"Tina's finishing up. She'll be done any minute." He noted she hadn't said "I love you, too", but he understood why. This was all new for her. He'd waited this long to be with her, he'd wait as long as it'd take for her love him back.

"I'm sure," Sif said. "By chance... have you told her any of the stories? About the old days?"

"No, I haven't. I wasn't sure if it'd be a good idea. Why?"

"Just wondering," she said. "My grandmother would tell them to me when I was a little girl. It's... part of how I found out."

"I try and keep her away from the godly stuff. Besides, I can't lie and say I read it or someone told me. Tina's way too perceptive and she knows when I'm lying," he muttered.

"And I'm guessing you don't have the excuse of a Norwegian grandmother," Sif teased. "Why do you keep her away from it? If told to her, at this point, she could likely accept that they were only stories."

Sif sighed.
"I get the feeling that she's going to need to know the truth sooner or later. How else will you explain it when we find Asgard?"

"No such luck," he smiled a little, but her next question turned him serious again. "Because I wanted her to live a normal life without the whole 'I'm the daughter of a god' hovering over her head, defining her."

He shakes his head.

"I don't know. Damn whoever's causing all this!" he remarked bitterly.

"Hey. Easy. It'll turn out okay. Have faith," Sif said gently, laying her hand on his arm.

"I think she should hear them. She doesn't have to know they're our stories, at least, not yet. If you want, I could tell them to her."

"Maybe," he conceded reluctantly. "Just no stories involving a giant wolf. Not until I find out just why she's having these nightmares."

"Fenrir I can leave out of it for now. There are plenty of other stories I can tell. Plenty from Thor's adventures with Loki, certainly. The Treasures of the Aesir, perhaps," Sif said, absently playing with a lock of her golden hair.

"Heh, I remember when Thor and I stole Hymir's mile-long cauldron. Not my most honorable moment, but boys will be boys and all that." He looks at her play with her hair. He finds it strangely attractive.

"And I remember how you two looked carrying that silly thing. I thought I was going to die of laughter right there. But, yes, boys will be boys and such. Fortunately, you, at least, grew out of it," Sif said, laughing.

"Hey, I'll have you know that Odin greatly enjoyed having that thing around," he said, though he couldn't help laughing himself. "Still, I had two functioning arms back then." He shakes his head to clear it of potential gloom. "Alright Sif, if you want to tell her a few stories, it's okay with me."

"I never doubted its usefulness, but you made quite a sight. Anyway, okay. And, I promise, no wolves. Not yet," Sif promised.

"I'd honestly prefer if she never hears about that, even if she doesn't know it's significance to our family." He gazes at his left hand, the burnt hand that looked so foreign on him. "I can still remember it you know. Fenrir's hot breath, saliva, teeth around my arm, the sensation of..I'm sorry. Memory comes unbidden sometimes."

"I can understand. Do you know how many times I've woken in the night, thinking I've felt something on my neck, and panicking to make sure my hair's still there?" Sif shook her head, one hand absently going back to her hair, as if to reassure herself it was, in fact, still long and flowing.

"But, don't think for a moment that we don't honor and respect your sacrifice. It's... humbling to us all that you would be so brave."

He walked over, holding her to him, his hand caressing her long tresses. "No one's stealing your hair on my watch."

He sighs. "I know you do, Sif. And I know the others felt the same. But as a warrior, you don't talk about the effect something like that can have on someone, and not just physically. I'm sorry, I don't mean to go about this. It's not like I can got to a psychiatrist to talk about it, they'd think I was crazy."

"Aww. I feel so safe, knowing I have my brave Tyr to protect me," she said, teasing just a little, but without any hint of sarcasm.

"In any case... I'm not a psychiatrist or anything, but if you need to talk, I'm here. And I bring comfort food."
