Gawain did not stop running until he reached the bookstore. Looking in all directions to ensure Wendy had not followed him, he briskly unlocked the door, stepped inside, and then slid a small but sturdy bookcase behind the door to brace it--not that doing so would necessarily deter a being with Wendy's power, but it seemed worth a try.
Only then did Gawain collapse into the chair behind the desk and start gasping in the darkened sanctuary of his bookstore. Meanwhile Darius hopped down from the counter and into his lap, meowing inquisitively. Gawain chuckled between gasps and stroked his feline friend. He always enjoyed these moments, but tonight they seemed all the more precious. He had not been able to find out what Wendy's connection to the godling business was, but frankly he didn't care at the moment. There were more important concerns at hand.
For example, once he caught his breath, he intended to contact Nimue to see if she was alright.
