Summary: Frigg gets an unexpected visitor

The Norse wedding was barely a week away. Most of the details had been squared away, but there were always a few last-minute things to take care of. Ensuring the flowers were ordered, that the catering had the final headcount. Things like that.

Suddenly the door burst open and in swept a woman--at first, she seemed young. College-aged, maybe. But... a closer look showed her to be more ageless than anything. She had a book under her arm.
"Here's the new style book, Ms. Lawson!" she chirped, "Oh, is that for the Wheatley-Shin wedding?" She pointed to the work strewn over the desk. "Such a sweet couple, those two."

Who the heck was this? Still, Frigg didn't want to be rude...

"Gracias," she replied politely. "Yes it is, and yes they are."

"De nada," the woman said brightly in reply, laying the book on a small table. "It's so wonderful seeing two lives coming together in perfect harmony, don't you think?"

"I do," Frigg agreed. "Sorry, but I thought I knew all those working on this. Tess Lawson," she says, extending her hand.

The woman just smiled.
"Oh, I know who you are. You can call me... Terra," she said. "...they do look up to you so."

That prophetic ring that frigg would get at times starting pinging in her head. "I see," she replied cautiously. "They mean a lot to me, too."

"No one intends to take them from you. But you must cast your nets wider. Connect to the others as well," 'Terra' said.

Frigg lowers her voice a little. "Why now? Not too long ago we were being left a trail of breadcrumbs in a race to the top for who knows what purpose."

"Because now something is rising against you as a whole. You must stand united against it, or cease to exist," she explained.

"So is this a genuine act of benevolence, or is it you simply don't want your game halted?" Frigg's voice was even, but with a certain steel in it. She didn't like the lives of her family toyed with.

"It is what you make of it. Work together, and you will all benefit from the combined strength," 'Terra' said.

I wonder if humans found us this annoying.

"You're stubborn, I'll give you that, Earthmother."

"One doesn't endure this long without learning a few things along the way, dear. Do you understand what must be done? The reasons will matter later."

"Yes, I understand what you're saying. Given the egos involved it may not be all that simple."

"Oh, it never is, is it? Like herding cats. But you... That's what you do, isn't it? You're a leader. A coordinator. A queen. You know how to bring people together and orchestrate to get a task done. You've got some very talented individuals out there. I'm sure you'll know just what to do with them."

"Well, we can hope at least."

"All the tools you need are already in your hands. You just need to use them, and strike while things are hot. You can still wait until things cool down, of course, but better sooner than later. I'm sure the other queens will be happy to step in to assist you," 'Terra' said with a smile.

I see." Frigg was quiet for a time before she spoke again. "May I ask you a question?"

"Ask."

"Where are Odin and the others?"

"That is an answer I cannot give you. But they are not harmed."

"Why were they taken?" Frigg asked, trying to keep her voice level.

"Another answer I cannot give you," 'Terra' said with what sounded like a touch of regret.

Frigg's hands clenched, and she took several small, calming breaths, managing to keep up the appearance of composure.

"I see. Truth be told I was expecting an answer like that," she replied neutrally.

"I promise, when you're ready for those answers, the game will be up," 'Terra' said.

"And what happens when the game is up? What happens to everyone who doesn't win this game you've set up?"

"If I don't win? Nothing. There will be nothing," 'Terra' said with a shrug.

"If YOU don't win?" Frigg had immediately picked up on this. "So it's not a collaboration, your competing with that other guy for something."

"I have vested interest in ensuring your survival. I make no promises for my... counterpart," she said, pursing her lips.

"Earthmother, please, if there is something larger going on, please tell me. It would go a long way towards convincing the others to trust you," Frigg pleaded.

"My dear, there is always something larger going on. I have told you what you need to know for now," she replied.

And Frigg sighs at that. "Very well then. I'll do what I can."

"That's what I was hoping to hear. Reach out. Do what you can to come together. It will serve you all in days to come."

"I suppose I should say thank you, but you'll understand if I'm a little conflicted, Earthmother."

Frigg didn't respond. She wasn't feeling as chipper as she had been.
