At first glance, the man coming into the building looked like any one of a number of middle-level underlings. No one even thought to question him, so he got to Seth's workspace easily.

"So... I hear you've still not figured out the scale, huh, Boss?" he asked a little too cheekily.

Seth narrows his eyes at the new arrival. "Who the fuck are you and how did you get Marie to clear you?"

"Magic." The man waggled his fingers and grinned. "So, you just letting the cat figure it out since the snake isn't here, or what?"

"None of your fucking business," Seth replied plainly.

"Oh, I think it is, Seth. You're not going to get it alone. So, I have some... suggestions, if you will," he said.

"In that crummy hotel I have to play your game. This is Earth, pal, I don't have to listen to a damn thing you have to say," Seth answered acidly. "I know you're playing us for some reason, and it's not to see who reaches the finish line first. So if it's all the same, fuck off."

The man shrugged.
"As much as I would love to see the battle, watching a bunch of humans crush your kind isn't on the agenda if I can help it. I'm sure you wouldn't want it happening to your women and their children either."

Seth abruptly stood from his desk. "You leave my girls out of this!"

He smirked.
"Good. Now that we're on the same page, let's talk about keeping them, and you, alive and well and protected, shall we? You've got problems. Enemies. Even these guys here..." He made a sweeping gesture. "...they aren't going to be enough. You need the big guns."

Seth calms his anger, sitting back down. "I have a lot more than this. There are people all over this city at the highest levels that owe me, but I'm guessing that's not what you meant."

"Nope. More along the lines of your little spitfire out in the desert, your pretty blonde friend, and all the others," he said with a grin.

"..so you're talking about some kind of ceasefire with the other godly types?"

"Bingo. That'd be a good start, anyway."

"First you have us cockfighting and now you want us to work together. If you didn't want trouble with regular humans then that whole Godsday thing was a real fuck-up on your part," Seth pointed out.

"Not at all. That was a litmus test. If all this is really going to work, you have to be ready for it--and so do the mortals. Their happy little bubble's been broken. Now it's time to herd them like the sheep they are. Gotta show 'em who's really in charge," he said with a shrug.

"That's all fine and dandy but it still doesn't explain what you get out of it."

"I get to see you survive, that's what I get," he said with a dismissive gesture.

"Well fuck you, too. Okay, you delivered your message, so kindly get out and do whatever it is your overgod types do."

"Hey, if you'd rather massacre yourselves, that's up to you, I guess. Be a damned shame about those little ones, though. As long as you know what it is you need to do."

"Oh quit acting like you're not the cause of all this. You want us to work together, I get it. Doesn't mean I have to treat you with anything less than contempt given the crap you've pulled." Seth's eyes narrow coldly. "And if you bring up my girl again, overgod or not, I'll find a way to make you suffer."

"Yeah, good luck with that one, Boss," he sneered, "More like it's the other way around. You know, I'll bet if you asked nicely, you could get yourself all four of them at once."

Seth just stood there for a time before calmly sitting down, and resuming his work. "So you want a ceasefire and everybody to team-up against a common foe. Anything else?"

"I would appreciate it if you didn't get yourselves killed in the process."

Seth raised an eyebrow. "Is that really something that has to be said? I have no intentions of dying, certainly not like this at any rate."

"Most people don't. Especially not gods. But it can happen, so do avoid it. Especially with something as valuable as that scale. Oh. And give my best to your girls, will you?" He grinned.
