Anubis smirked to himself as he typed 'Knock Knock' and sent the text to Hanuman. He pocketed his cell phone and knocked on Hanuman's door. Anubis should have been in LA, getting ready for the new semester of school to start. This would be very unexpected.

"Oh, yeah? Are you going to lead me astray or something?"

"I'll lead you somewhere", Mason teased.

"That sounds pretty interesting to me." Hanuman took a step backwards further into the house and lifted his hands vaguely. "Is it gonna be a no shirt, no shoes, no service place that you're leading me to?"

"I wouldn't complain. It's actually in that graveyard we went to the first time I visited, what I want to show you is there."

"Mmhm. Yeah, I didn't think you'd complain. Maybe later, though, huh?" Javi winked, mischief and invitation in his smile. "Gimme a minute to throw something on, okay?"

Without waiting for a reply, he disappeared back into the house. Mason didn't have to wait long, though; Javi was back in minutes. A pair of worn Converse on his feet and a short-sleeved button-up with the bare minimum of buttons done seemed to be his solution to the earlier joke. Stepping outside to join his friend, he locked the door behind him. Then he slung an arm around Mason's shoulders for another quick hug and he delivered a quick kiss to the other young man's cheek for extra punctuation. "Okay, Mason. Show me this surprise."

Mason stepped inside the house to wait for Javi. He pulled his phone out and glanced at the half message, smiling at it. He glanced up as Javi returned, shoving his phone back in his pocket.

Mason nudged Javi as he hugged him. "I didn't interrupt anything at all, showing up here, did I?"

"Nope. I was just starting up some reading to get a jumpstart on my classes. Believe me. It was totally boring. You're way more interesting than statistics."

"God, I'd hope I'm more interesting than statistics. You're doing better than me with the studying. I haven't even opened my books yet. Of course, I guess I've been busy with other things lately."

"Are you still going to be teasing me about the surprise? That's pretty cruel." Javi sighed. "Maybe I really should just go back to my reading."

"No, no, no! I'm not meaning to tease, honest!" Mason took his hand. "The surprise will be worth it. I did go out and get some of my school books. I'm more or less ready for classes to start, I guess. To be honest, I think it's gonna be a tough year. A lots changed since a year ago."

"You'll do fine. We'll both do fine. You know you can totally call me if you need anything. Even if it's just a weekend away and some quality distraction." Javi gave Mason's hand a squeeze and he grinned before winking. "But come on. Take me where you want me before I die of the suspense."

"I might just take you up on that", Mason told him, giving him a playful smile. "We're getting close. Remember the one? The graveyard I dragged you to and walked around in?"

"Oh, yeah. How could I forget? It took forever to find one here in Berkeley but you were determined. It was kinda neat."

"I'm glad you appreciated it. I know you said you didn't think I was a total oddjob, but I still wasn't sure if I was freaking you out or not. I know better now." He gave Javi a smile.

"Oh, yeah. It takes a lot to freak me out and nothing like a cemetery or walking in them is going to do it. Now if you climbed into the crypts and..." Javi cut himself off with a laugh and rolled his eyes. He let Mason lead him through the gate and into the cemetery before he added, "Then I'll tell you that you might be taking the goth thing a little far and, dude, cold marble isn't really going to get me hard."

"Believe it or not, that's not what I'm trying to do. But a crypt is a pretty good idea. This way..." Still holding onto Javi's hand, he led him toward a small stone building. One side of the building was in shade and Mason led them that way. "Ready for the surprise?"

Javi looked at him for a moment and then nodded, a smile still on his face. "Okay, Mason. I trust you."

Mason gave Javi a small smile and a squeeze of his hand. He took a moment to try and center himself, relax his body and focus his mind. Mason stared into the darkest part of the shadow of the crypt, then moved to it, holding Javi's hand super tightly. He pulled them into total darkness, and they seemed to remain there for a few moments, a deep cold surrounding them for a moment that Mason didn't seem to notice. Then light came back into their world as they were among the graves again. They were different graves, a different graveyard. Even the terrain was different, flat land, dry grass, a road and some trees in the distance, but not a building in sight. The air felt different too, cooler than where they had been. "Surprise", Mason told Javi quietly. "We're in Nebraska."

"... Holy shit." Mason knew Javi wasn't much one for cursing (always excepting the moments where emotion took total control, of course) and so could easily interpret the shock and sheer awe in the two word response. The shorter man stared at the landscape, head turning to take it all in. He seemed oblivious to the fact that he still held Mason's hand tightly.

Mason watched Javi's reaction, seeing him take in their new surroundings. He gave him a moment before speaking up again. He pointed to the western horizon. "About a mile and a half that way is the house I grew up in."

Javi looked to Mason and grinned wide. "Are you taking me there, too?"

"Nooooo", Mason answered, his eyes wide with surprise. "Not really wanting to see the family right now. And I still haven't tryed to explain this reincarnation stuff to them, so being here would be kinda hard to explain. Just thought it would've been fun to show you. Guess I could've taken us back to L.A. Or to Chicago. I'd found a graveyard out there too while we were there. I can't travel like that to any graveyard at all, just ones I've been to before."

Javi laughed at Mason's reaction and quick backpedaling. "It's okay, man. Seriously. I don't think I'm ready to meet your family, anyway."

He just couldn't resist one more tease and fluttered his eyelashes in an overdramatic manner. Then he laughed again. "No, really," he assured his friend. "This is just so cool, though. Think of all the plane tickets you'll save! And you can visit any of us whenever you want if you get that look at the cemetery first." His expression lit with pleasure. "You can come up and hang with me any time you want to so totally consider this your open invitation, okay?"
