Summary: Tyr and his daughter, Tina, go visit Sif over the weekend.


Kevin had to admit he was anxious as they got closer and closer to their destination.

His ever perceptive daughter caught on quick. "Are you sweating, Daddy?

"What? Oh yeah, a little, hon. I'm just a little hot."

"But you have the air conditioner on." She seemed to think a minute. "Are you worried about seeing your friend?"

Sometimes she could be way too perceptive. He sighs. "Yeah, honey. I am a little."

Again she seemed to think. "Is she your girlfriend?"

Kevin nearly coughed in surprise. "What? No, Tina. Amber is an old friend who I haven't had a chance to sit down and talk with for awhile, that's all."

Tina raised a screwed-up eyebrow at him, totally not convinced.

"All right. If you're sure." Sif gently caressed his cheek, and went to fetch some pillows, sheets, and a light quilt.

"Here we go. The couch is pretty comfortable, but this will make it sort of like a daybed." She smiled at him. "If you change your mind, or decide you need anything, I'll be right upstairs, ok?"

"I'll let you know, Sif. Thank you for understanding."

"Of course. Goodnight, sweetheart. I'll see you in the morning," she said, and lightly kissed him on the cheek before disappearing upstairs.

He watched her leave and groaned as he set the couch up. That image was going to be with him all night.

"Good luck getting any sleep," Tyr shook his head to himself before laying down, hoping to at least get a few hours in.

Sif was up bright and early the next morning, re-warming the muffins in the oven, filling the house with their delectable aroma.

"Good morning, darling," she chirped. "Would you care for some coffee?"

Tyr stumbled into the room, looking haggard. He smirked a little upon hearing her.

"I see you're definitely a morning person. I have you know you invaded my dreams last night," he said with mock indignation.

"I'm used to getting up early to start the ovens at the bakery," Sif explained, "I'm taking the day off, though, so I can be with you. My assistants know--they can take care of things without me for a couple days."

"I didn't intend to invade your dreams. Were they good ones, at least?"

"Well..thanks Sif. I mean I don't want you to miss work on my account, but..well I'm just glad you're here."

He blushes a little as he coughs into his hand. "Yeah, yeah they were."

Sif smiled.
"Now, now, this is vacation time. I'm the boss--I can take it whenever I like."

She quirked an eyebrow at the blush.
"That sweet, and you still elected to sleep down here?" she teased.

"I never said it was easy to stay down here," he admitted with a smirk. "Still, Tina doesn't need to find out her daddy's seeing someone knew by..hearing things."

Sif nodded.
"I can understand that." She wrapped her arms around him. "Of course, if you wanted to just sleep in my bed, that would have been all right too."

"Maybe," he said, his arm around her waist, "but I couldn't guarantee I'd keep my hand to myself if I did."

"Would that be such an awful thing?" Sif teased.

"Anyway, we still have muffins for breakfast. If you like, I can put some coffee on..."

As they spoke, Tina came down the stairs, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.

"Morning Daddy, morning Amb..." she noticed the embrace.

Oh crap. "Honey, there's something Amber and I need to talk to you about," Kevin said, hoping to cut off any possibility that she'd think he lied to her.

"Good morning, sweetie," Sif said, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, "We have some muffins for breakfast, with lingonberry butter. Why don't you get one and a glass of milk? Your daddy and I have something important to tell you."

Again Amber's genuine sweetness managed to cut off Tina's growing suspicions..for the moment anyway.

"Okay," she said, walking over to said goodies. Though the look she shot her dad clearly stated 'You better have a good reason for this'.

Oh boy, I better sit down for this. When he takes his seat, he begins. "Tina, when I said Amber was a old friend, I meant it. The truth is though..I've liked her for a long time. And..well..." he searched for the right words.

"Sweetie, your daddy has been a very good friend to me for many years. I didn't know he liked me until just last night, when he told me," Sif explained, "We care for each other very much. If it's all right with you, we'd like to start dating. I know it won't always be easy, since we live so far apart, but, would it be all right if I became part of your family?"

Tina looked at her father, who nodded, confirming what Amber was saying. She sat there a moment, thinking.

"I used to hope that Mommy and Daddy would get back together. When Mommy started to have Todd over all the time, I knew it wouldn't happen." She said, looking a little sad. But then she smiled. "Daddy's been lonely a long time. He doesn't say so, but I can tell. You're very nice Miss Amber. If you can make Daddy happy, I'll get used to it."

Tyr put a hand on his daughter's. "Thank you, baby."

"That's very brave and generous of you," Sif said, kissing the top of Tina's head.

"I promise to do my very best to make your daddy a happy man." She smiled at Tyr.

Tina didn't know what it was about this woman, but she felt safe and comforted by her. Somehow she KNEW she was telling the truth and that she'd keep her promise. She gave a shy little smile before taking a bite from one of the muffins.

With Tina's blessing, Tyr now felt comfortable putting his hand on top of Sif's.

Sif curled her fingers around Tyr's.

"Now... Why don't we all have a lovely breakfast, and then we can do some fun things around town?" Sif suggested.

"That sounds good to me. What about you, hon?" Tyr asked Tina.

The little girl nodded, though she clearly seemed more attention to the muffin than to the conversation going on at the moment.

He gives Sif's hand a little squeeze. "What did you have in mind?"

"Well, there's the waterfront, the zoo, museums... What interests you?" Sif suggested.

"Um, well, anything would be nice really. What about you, Tina?"

She stopped eating just long enough to say: "Can we see the animals!?"

"Of course you can," Sif replied, smiling indulgently. "What would you say to a picnic lunch, and a day at the zoo?" she suggested.
