Warnings: Possible eye-rolling cuteness.
Summary: Tyr and his daughter, Tina, go visit Sif over the weekend.


Kevin had to admit he was anxious as they got closer and closer to their destination.

His ever perceptive daughter caught on quick. "Are you sweating, Daddy?

"What? Oh yeah, a little, hon. I'm just a little hot."

"But you have the air conditioner on." She seemed to think a minute. "Are you worried about seeing your friend?"

Sometimes she could be way too perceptive. He sighs. "Yeah, honey. I am a little."

Again she seemed to think. "Is she your girlfriend?"

Kevin nearly coughed in surprise. "What? No, Tina. Amber is an old friend who I haven't had a chance to sit down and talk with for awhile, that's all."

Tina raised a screwed-up eyebrow at him, totally not convinced.

He sent her a bit of a smirk while Tina's attention was focused elsewhere. "Good to know."

Sif smiled back, and went to dress, simply and practically for the weather and the day's activities, but she still managed to look fetching.

"Now, to get our picnic ready..." She bustled around the kitchen, preparing everything from scratch.

Tina was taking her sweet time in the bathroom, so Tyr thought he'd come down to see how Sif was doing. He was properly dressed this time as he arrived in the kitchen. He stood in the entry way for a minute as he watched her work.

"You look beautiful."

Sif blushed.
"Thank you," she said. "Why don't you help me get these packed up?"

"Sure," and he proceeded to do just that. "I..I didn't offend you at all when I opted to sleep on the couch, did I?

"Offended? No. Surprised, though, maybe. I guess I've just had too much experience with too-eager men with one-track minds, so to speak. When Thor and I were on honeymoon, I was barely able to walk that entire first month," she said, chuckling a little as she finished getting everything packed up. "Whenever you're ready is fine, sweetheart, whether it's hours or months from now."

Tyr's smile visibly lessened, though he tried to turn so Sif wouldn't see it. Being reminded of Thor made him wonder if he could be the kind of man Sif wanted. Plus he really didn't need to hear stories of her sexual liaisons with Thor. Was he jealous? Probably, and that made him feel uncomfortable as he disliked having such petty thoughts.

"But, hey. All that is ancient history. Literally," she continued. "What matters more is the here and now. We're here together, and this is what we have now." Sif kissed him sweetly and softly.

It still felt like a dream. Being with her, holding her, kissing her. However the mention of Thor had blunted his mood a bit.

When they parted he spoke. "Sif, if Thor were to return..would you go back to him? If that's what you'd want, I wouldn't stop you. Above all I want you to be happy."

"That... is a difficult question, to be honest. I'm sure if he did, he would expect me to go to him. However... Did anyone ever explain to you how I became Thor's wife in the first place?" Sif asked.

"I heard gossip as well as read mortal interpretations of it." He respected Thor, he didn't want to think he just bullied a man into giving up his wife. "I don't know how much of it is true or not."

"Thor... Well, he's a man who knows what he wants and doesn't like taking no for an answer. At some point, he decided he wanted me, except I was already married to Aurvandil. So, more or less, he said Aurvandil could either give me up, or they could fight it out. Of course, Thor was a much better fighter, and I didn't want to see Aurvandil get hurt, so I volunteered to go, on the condition that Thor would adopt my son as his own and make him one of the Aesir. Beyond that, though, I wasn't given the choice. Thor would have had me one way or another." Sif sighed.

"Of course, demanding another man's woman isn't exactly something people can get away with any more. Truthfully, a man of his temper isn't really the sort of person these days that I would want as my partner and father of my children. Times have changed, but I'm not sure he has."

"So, to answer your question, probably not, unless circumstances demanded it was necessary. Thor is a good man. I just don't think he's the right man for me. Not anymore."

Tyr holds her to him. "I'm sorry, I never meant to make you remember that. And I don't fear Thor. If you want him back, so be it. However, I promise you he'd have a much harder time taking you from me. I love you."

"I know," she said, gently stroking his cheek.

"Anyway, is everyone ready for a picnic?"

"Tina's finishing up. She'll be done any minute." He noted she hadn't said "I love you, too", but he understood why. This was all new for her. He'd waited this long to be with her, he'd wait as long as it'd take for her love him back.

"I'm sure," Sif said. "By chance... have you told her any of the stories? About the old days?"

"No, I haven't. I wasn't sure if it'd be a good idea. Why?"

"Just wondering," she said. "My grandmother would tell them to me when I was a little girl. It's... part of how I found out."

"I try and keep her away from the godly stuff. Besides, I can't lie and say I read it or someone told me. Tina's way too perceptive and she knows when I'm lying," he muttered.

"And I'm guessing you don't have the excuse of a Norwegian grandmother," Sif teased. "Why do you keep her away from it? If told to her, at this point, she could likely accept that they were only stories."

Sif sighed.
"I get the feeling that she's going to need to know the truth sooner or later. How else will you explain it when we find Asgard?"

"No such luck," he smiled a little, but her next question turned him serious again. "Because I wanted her to live a normal life without the whole 'I'm the daughter of a god' hovering over her head, defining her."

He shakes his head.

"I don't know. Damn whoever's causing all this!" he remarked bitterly.

"Hey. Easy. It'll turn out okay. Have faith," Sif said gently, laying her hand on his arm.

"I think she should hear them. She doesn't have to know they're our stories, at least, not yet. If you want, I could tell them to her."

"Maybe," he conceded reluctantly. "Just no stories involving a giant wolf. Not until I find out just why she's having these nightmares."

"Fenrir I can leave out of it for now. There are plenty of other stories I can tell. Plenty from Thor's adventures with Loki, certainly. The Treasures of the Aesir, perhaps," Sif said, absently playing with a lock of her golden hair.

"Heh, I remember when Thor and I stole Hymir's mile-long cauldron. Not my most honorable moment, but boys will be boys and all that." He looks at her play with her hair. He finds it strangely attractive.
