Summary: Bres has gone radio silent, and Mab tracks him down.


She tried his cell. No answer. Which had been happening for some time now.

She tried his office, and the secretary made some excuse about him being indisposed. Every time she called.

Finally, she'd had enough. She called the office again and asked for the senior Maddox, and at last the secretary was helpful and told her to hold while she was transferred.

"Do not put words in my mouth, Bres." Her tone took a colder note, at last moving from the neutrality it had been maintaining. "If you have a question, ask it straight. Do not make assumptions."

"Why!?" He snarled. "Why would you do that with someone you've stated openly about how much you despised him!?" His face shifted somewhat to Fomorian, but not the full transformation.

"Hate and attraction are not mutually exclusive." Her arms crossed as she watched him shift.

"What was the attraction!? What does that standardless man-whore have that I don't!?"

What? "Do you feel threatened by him because I indulged my curiosity?"

"Curiosity? What the hell is there to be curious about!? The man is so fucking blatant!"

"Answer my question."

"Yes!!" He snarled, full Fomorian face now. "If someone you hate so easily catches your eye than where does that leave me!? I thought,,I thought I was..important to you."

"Sit down." It was an unmistakable command. Where he was bringing out his emotional Fomorian side, she was all Winter Queen. Even the room felt notably colder.

Bres breathed heavily out his nose, seething with indignant rage. She'd said it before that she was her equal, technically he didn't have to obey her at all. However, the respect that had built up after so long cause Bres to sit on the floor as she commanded.

She crossed the room without hurrying, her heels marking each step toward him like a drum beat. When she stood before him, she looked down at his still changed face, her own expression impassive.

Then she knelt, smooth and slow, looking him in the eyes. And then suddenly her mouth was on his in a hard, deep, yet ultimately fast kiss, because pulled back before he had much time to react.

"You are my consort," her voice was low, intense, almost angry sounding. "I chose you above all others. Fidelity is not required between us, but none shall hold a place above yours. You will be the one to sire a child upon me if and when I decide to bear one. As for the Sun God, he was an itch. It has been scratched. He isn't you."

The action surprised him, but it also seemed to awaken some of his Tuatha reasoning and emotion. With the anger set aside, what she said made sense..and meant so much. He hung his head in shame.
"I am sorry, Mab."

She didn't say anything to his apology, merely continued in that same stern tone. "The next time you are bothered by something, I recommend talking to me. I make you no guarantees, but I can assure you I will at least hear you out. And for your own sanity, I suggest you take a secondary lover. Perhaps even a third. A more regular and varied sex life might help assuage that jealous streak of yours."

The offers of compromise were phrased as orders. Perhaps it was her way of giving him some leeway without losing face. Or perhaps, she meant it exactly like it was coming out, and she was annoyed by his jealous fit. She made it difficult to tell.

Bres had to admit part of him deeply missed that time at her home around Easter. However, this was who Mab was. This was the woman he had longed to be with. He knew who she was and who she wasn't. This lapse would have to be rectified. He shifted back to his Tuatha form.

"I'll take what you've said under advisement," he said, finally.

"Good. In the meantime..." And then she was kissing him again, her mouth passionate and demanding against his.

And in that kiss he forgets everything: Why he was angry, his own shame, and even where they were. He wraps his arms around her, happily kissing back with a hunger brought by months of being apart.

She slid onto his lap, knees straddling his waist, and not caring a bit that her skirt had to ride up high on her thighs to accommodate the movement.

He's aware enough to notice this as his hands move down to caress and squeeze her now bare legs.

She finally drew back from his mouth, her breathing heavy. Her hands slipped into his hair, nails very gently dragging across his scalp. "Consider this reparations on my part. What do you want, my king? Indulge yourself."

He seemed to revel in her touch a moment before inspiration hit.
"Go over to my desk and put your hands on it."

A look that could almost have been a smile flashed across her features as she stood, graceful as ever, and moved to do as he ordered.

He watched her move, starting to remove his clothes. The jacket was cast aside and his tie was removed as he walked over to her. By the time he reached her, his shirt was off too. His arms went around her waist as he started to kiss the back of her neck.

She watched him strip off as he came towards her with a hungry gleam in her eyes. And when his arms came around her and his lips touched the back of her neck, she wanted to turn, to taste and touch in return, but she stayed where she was, only tilting her head slightly in invitation to him. She'd promised him whatever he wanted from her this time, and she would deliver.

He smiled, his lips moving to kiss her offered neck. His hands then began to unbutton his pants.
"You can touch if you want, but don't turn around," he instructed. His pants made a soft sound as they hit the floor. His hands began to inch her skirt up.

"That might be a bit of a challenge," her tone was a bit amused. But she'd remember the offer and wait for a better vantage.
