Summary: Aphrodite is calling an all-pantheon council. Let's talk strategy.

Not everyone had come to lunch. That wasn't terribly surprising. Even in this house, it seemed almost no one was on the same schedule. Still, by now, most of them at least generally knew when Sif served lunch--at the very least, the smell of her cooking was a good tip-off. Still, afterward, Aphrodite waited in the formal dining room, hoping that a full strategy could be agreed upon.

Dionysus' head snapped up at that. His eyes narrowed as he looked directly at Hades, and he sat bolt-upright in his chair. "That all depends on what you think I'm speaking of," he said.

"I'm referring to two of those wretched creatures you allowed to run wild, resulting in that travesty," Hades replied, unfazed by Dionysus' demeanor.

"Look, when all this is over, you and me can meet in an alley with baseball bats. Hell, I'll even give you the first swing. But right now, it's a matter of saving all our asses-- so can the recriminations, yeah?"
He paused as Hades' words sank in more. "And what do you mean that you can provide it too?"

"For your own health's sake, I wouldn't follow through with that. However, the point is made." Hades replies to the question: "I mean that two of the maenads are bound to my service."

Dionysus snorted derisively. "And I don't suppose you'd release them back to me," he said. "Still, if you and me can join those forces, it could help."

"Why on earth would anyone give them back to you when you can't control them --?" Arthur starts to say, then sighs. "But first things first. Ladies. If you can subtly change the information These People are circulating among their followers.... how are you going to change it? I mean, to what practical end?"

Hades didn't dignify the first statement with a response. "For the sake of mutual defense I can lend their skills with those serving you."

Hades looks at Arthur. "His Majesty has a point," Hades said with respect.

Aphrodite flared her soothing powers. She would not have this devolve into arguments.
"Gentlemen, please. We are all to work together on this. I'm sure the maenads, and their reclaimed forms as nereids and whatnot are useful. That said, they must be kept in control. They are not to harm humankind or its properties without specific orders to do so. Dionysus, Hades... and you, Triton, if your father is unwilling to do so, I am counting on you to keep things well in hand. We cannot risk being labeled as being even more dangerous that they are already touting."

She looked to Athena and Ariadne.
"I'm sure they have ideas already in the works. Ladies, if you would elaborate, please?"

Athena again leaned forward to address the issue. "The FCF is the mostly likely group responsible for the attacks we suffered, either directly or by heavy insinuation. We control their content, we control not only their actions, but we can preemptively respond as well. In fact, once I'm in, I can probably find their roster and branch out from there. Effectively, I can control their digital existence on a personal level. "

" 'Dear Fellow Bastards. Please come to Tara Davison's workshop at precisely 1 pm Saturday. Ignore all ticking sounds.'" Tara grinned. "I'm kidding, of course." The smile disappears. "I can easily make them without ticking sounds."

"It won't be a permanent measure, most likely. Eventually, someone will probably catch on that the literature is being messed with. But, if we can disseminate things from the sources fueling the animosity against us saying that we aren't a threat and shouldn't be destroyed... Well, it could definitely buy us some time," Ariadne explained.

She blinked at Astarte.
"I'm all for weapons and defense systems, but we should probably save blowing them up as a last-ditch effort. We're still grossly outnumbered, and killing people isn't going to win us any favors. Although... if we're going to be doing research and development on these sorts of things... We're going to need some invested capital. Defense and offense don't come cheaply."

"I don't know about last ditch, but I'll agree not to make it the first ditch, anyway. And it's not cheap, but it's not always as expensive as you'd think."

"The fewer mortals we can antagonize, the better," Aphrodite reminded them, "But if financing is what you need, I will be happy to donate to the cause."

"I can also donate capital, but I'll have to do it discreetly. My identity is still not known and I believe maintaining that secrecy gives us an advantage."

Aphrodite nodded.
"Of course. If that will provide the sufficient capital, the sooner we begin developing and testing weapons and defense systems, the better. However, we will need to ensure all of us and our troops have uniform and thorough training to use them. Who is willing to provide these services?"

"I remember all the training and skills I picked up over my lifetimes," Tyr informed. "Plus before the accident I was a Marine. I'm familiar with modern warfare, I could train them."

"I was built for combat. I could help. If nothing else, I am most familiar with security systems. I could develop and test them," Bastet offered.

"My knowledge of warfare is shaky, but I'm not bad with strategy. And, since we're so scattered, I could create a simulator to help with training," Ariadne said.

"I've already been training my troops. I will continue in their progress... and that of the others under our command," Triton said.

"I'm in too." All of this was her area, and at this point whatever Triton volunteered for, she'd join up too

"Very well, then. The five of you need to work together to develop a training program, and I'd like you to work closely with our weapons engineer to make sure everything is seamless," Aphrodite said, nodding in approval.

"All that said, we can't afford a war of weapons. We don't have the numbers to wage it. We also need to mount an offense of thoughts and opinions. We need to change the way the world sees us so that we aren't a threat. The altered literature will help, but we also need to work on creating our own... brand, if you will. Marketing ourselves as something other than the enemy. Persuasion is one of my gifts, and my identity is already public. I will be happy to spearhead the movement, but I can't do it alone. Who will help me in this?"

"I believe this is also Hada's metier," Arthur says very carefully, something clearly turning in his head as he's listening to Dite.

"I can work what influence I can on Washington. Try to keep any anti-godling legislation from ever coming into law."

"I can help you, Callista, but I'd request it be a joint venture." Yes she was his friend, but that rebellious side of him could see she was really starting to monopolize guiding things around here.
