Winter is putting footsteps in the meadow

She found little amusement in her forced choice of clothing. However, after much diligence she'd discovered something that she felt was passable. Feathers after all were a fraction more reliable than spider webbing.

And with her ill mood she'd taken herself away from the main house and come to the gardens. It was warm and bright and the flowers were in bloom. It did nothing to improve her temperament. In fact, the air in the small, almost secluded corner she'd come to, turned decidedly cooler, and the grass beneath her bare feet began sparkling with frost. She could admit quietly to herself that she reached out to coat a vibrant red rose in crystal clear ice purely out of spite, small as the revenge might be.

"Not that I've ever seen." This was better. Dealing small insults, while pretending she was holding his had purely as a favor, was far more normal for them. "You're nearly your Tuatha De self again," she observed.

"Hmph, he says to her dismissal of his lying skills. And pretends he needs the extra comfort so he can hold her hand a little longer, His claws were nearly gone and his features were almost entirely human-looking. "Agreed." Even his voice had returned to normal. "That was..more painful than I'd care to admit."

"You bore it well." It was tantamount to an expression of sympathy from Mab. There was even an almost imperceptible increase of pressure from the hand that held his, that might, in some other universe, be called a squeeze. For Mab that was practically mushy.

"Well..I had a strong inspiration for showing dignity during duress," he said with a small smile. His features by now had returned to normal. Had that been a squeeze? Couldn't be...

"Ha. Ha. You're so witty," she said with a roll of her eyes. "Put a little drain cleaner in your food every day for a week, and then tell me how much dignity you retain."

That got a chuckle out of him.

"If it's all the same I'd rather not." His smile was..fond?

"If you're too scared to do it, then you don't get to mock me." Was she teasing him? The slight smile on her face and her tone said yes.

"I assure you I meant nothing but respect." Oddly enough, he actually had been..mostly.

She raise a disbelieving brow at him. "Sure you did."

"In any case..thank you."

"Whatever for?"

"For just..being there," he manages. Was that genuine gratitude in his voice? Must be the wind.

She nodded in understanding. "You did as much for me. I could do no less by you."

"So..does this mean we go back to throwing witty one-liners back and forth at each other?"

"You'd rather we do something else?" The teasing tone was still in her voice.

And for a short, but noticeable, time, Bres looks as if he did want something different.

"..why ruin a good thing," he said rhetorically.

She noticed, because as he had said earlier, very little escaped her. Even if he had been sarcastic at the time. It made her acutely aware that their hands were still entwined, though the need for it had long since passed. She staunchly avoided looking, keeping her features as even as possible. Though the lower timbre of her voice might give some of her thoughts away.

"Why indeed."

They had both seen a vulnerable side of each other now, and had both reacted with surprising care when the other was hurting. Was more possible? The tone of her voice... He decided a risk warranted.

"..do you remember the day you and I first met as mortals? We didn't even know who we ourselves were yet."

She did not groan at the topic, but she wanted to. "I do remember. Not my most glorious day, as I recall."

"Really? I remember you looking quite..lovely."

Did he now? Well that was news. "I was referring to my behavior," she clarified.

"Ooooh," he said in understanding. "Well..project of your environment?" he said, hazarding a guess.

"Perhaps, but there are better ways to rebel than throwing oneself at attractive older men."

Bres shrugs. "Maybe, but I suppose there are also worse things you could have done." Wait... "Older? As I recall I was one of those men you threw yourself at."

She nodded. "And the only one to ever spurn my advance." She is very very carefully neutral about that statement.
